CEO, India Labour Line

The CEO India Labourline is a leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction and operational stewardship to scale India Labourline. The role demands organisational leadership, skills in systems strengthening, partnerships and external engagement. The role also involves building, mentoring, and managing ILL teams across the country, with a strong focus on capacity building, performance and well-being.

A critical responsibility for the CEO will be to strengthen India Labourline’s response ecosystem through new partnerships with labour organisations, civil society actors, legal aid providers, and allied institutions to enable timely and effective support for workers in distress. The CEO will also provide oversight of technology platforms and case management systems, ensuring reliability, data integrity, and continuous improvement. S/he will lead monitoring, quality assurance, and learning processes, using data and case insights to improve service delivery and inform strategic decisions.

Externally, the CEO is expected to represent India Labourline with government departments, donors, media, and sector stakeholders to build visibility and policy linkages. Finally the role will include managing donor relationships, reporting, and compliance, while contributing to resource mobilisation and long-term sustainability planning.

The CEO, India Labour Line becomes part of Aajeevika Bureau’s senior management team, participating in key strategic decision making and discussions that have a bearing on organisational outcomes.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • A Postgraduate / PhD qualification in development studies, law, labour policy, management, or a related field.
  • 12–14 years of relevant professional experience, including leadership roles within rights-based, mission-driven organisations especially in the space of supporting labour and access to justice initiatives at scale.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex operations.
  • Strong communication skills, including experience with donor engagement, media management, research and policy.
  • Comfort with technology and digital systems, essential for overseeing a nationwide helpline.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to engage with state teams and partners.

The position is based in Bangalore. Familiarity with Bangalore’s professional ecosystem and its existing networks will be an advantage.

Aajeevika Bureau is seeking an experienced and committed colleague to join its India Labourline (ILL) team. The India Labourline is a phone based service to provide information, counselling, distress support and emergency response to informal workers throughout India. It is a powerful tool available to all categories of waged and self-employed workers in the large sectors of construction, factories, urban services, farm work, street vending etc. ILL helps thousands of workers resolve their wage disputes and ensures that they do not lose their rightful earnings to fraud and theft.

The India Labourline is managed by Aajeevika Bureau and supported by a large response network of trade unions and civil society organisations working on labour issues across the country.

The Regional Coordinator (North) will be part of the India Labour Line’s leadership team to oversee and mentor the operations of the India Labourline in North India. They will provide the conceptual and operational leadership to the India Labourline as it becomes a national movement across multiple states and cities.

The specific roles associated with the post of Regional Coordinator are as follows:

  • Management and administration of the India Labour Line operations including implementation of its expansion plans.
  • Supporting the central operations of the India Labour L Quality control and monitoring of data and information coming to the helpline.
  • Managing and Tracking the MIS data and ensuring quick resolution of cases registered. Tracking and oversight of critical cases for speedy resolution.
  • Support the field teams to ensure that the Standard Operating Procedure for case resolution is being followed.
  • Guiding and mentoring ILL’s field teams held by various CSOs across regions
  • Networking and liaison with labour organisers, CSOs and lawyers in order to assure swift responses to distressed workers calling in from various part of the country.
  • Relationship management with CSO partners holding the field teams. Networking with labour rights organisations in the region for greater visibility of ILL.
  • Represent ILL in relevant forums and bring its experience to various platforms of policy significance.

 

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a senior colleague to fill a leadership role to manage and upscale the India Labour Line agenda. An ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a Post Graduate degree with training in law, labour studies, social work, development, management or related field. People with Graduate degree but significant experience & knowledge in the area of labour & migration will be considered.
  • 5 to 10 years of work experience in the development sector, with preferably at least 2 to 3 years experience on the issue of labour, migration or legal aid.
  • The applicants must be interested and passionate about workers’ rights, legal protection and social justice.
  • Individuals with experience of managing and guiding large and multi-location field teams are likely to fare well in this role.
  • The role requires a strong people orientation, administrative experience and a proven ability to nurture teams.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to write good quality reports is essential. The role will require fulfilling donor reporting requirements.
  • A good grasp and comfort with data and technology is essential for this role.

Location & Travel: The position is based in Delhi but considerable travel to network and liaise with state teams will be needed. Professional connections and past / current experience of work in these geographies would be a big plus.

Salary: 9 to 10.5 lakhs p.a. depending on experience & qualifications. Somewhat higher salary may be considered for exceptionally experienced candidates.

Through its LEAD Cell (Legal Education and Aid for Development), Aajeevika Bureau provides legal assistance to workers facing wage theft, workplace injuries, bonded labour, unfair contracts, and unsafe working conditions. About the Role

We are seeking a Programme Manager – Legal Programmes & Partnerships to lead and strengthen Aajeevika’s legal aid and labour justice programmes across western India.

This role is suited for someone who is passionate about designing, managing, and scaling programmes, working closely with field teams and partners, and translating legal support into measurable outcomes for workers. The role primarily focuses on programme leadership, coordination, legal knowledge and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Design & Management

  • Plan, implement, and monitor legal aid and legal education programmes under the LEAD Cell.
  • Ensure timely delivery of programme goals, budgets, and outputs across multiple locations.
  • Strengthen systems for tracking cases, outcomes, learning, and impact.

Partnerships & Expansion

  • Build and manage partnerships with workers’ collectives, lawyers, legal services authorities, law schools, employers, and civil society organisations.
  • Identify new geographies and sectors for expanding access to legal aid.
  • Support the design of collaborative models such as legal fellowships, para-legal programmes, and institutional tie-ups.

Team Coordination & Capacity Building

  • Work closely with legal executives, field teams, and para-legal workers across centres.
  • Support capacity building of staff and partners through training and mentoring.
  • Facilitate coordination between legal teams and other programme verticals within Aajeevika Bureau.

Research, Learning & Advocacy

  • Guide documentation, research, and publications on labour justice and legal systems.
  • Use programme learnings to inform advocacy, policy engagement, and external communication.
  • Represent Aajeevika Bureau in networks, forums, and policy discussions related to labour justice.

Who Should Apply

  • Professionals with a minimum 7 years experience in programme management within legal aid, labour rights, human rights space.
  • A background in law (LLB/LLM) is highly preferred, but candidates with strong programme management experience in legal or rights-based work will also be considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multi-location programmes and partnerships.
  • Strong organisational, coordination, and team building skills.
  • Fluency in English and Hindi (spoken and written).
  • Willingness to travel regularly across programme locations.
  • Experience working in Rajasthan and/or Gujarat is an advantage.

Remuneration

Compensation will be aligned with Aajeevika Bureau’s internal parity and the non-profit sector. We expect to offer a CTC of Rs. 7.2–8.4 lakh per annum depending on relevant experience and qualifications.

Aajeevika Bureau, headquartered in Udaipur, is a non-profit organisation with a vision to secure, dignified lives of communities dependent on labour and migration (www.aajeevika.org).  Aajeevika Bureau operates through a network of facilitation centres and offers services and solutions to seasonal migrant workers and their families. These centres are based at the ‘rural’ source (in Rajasthan) and ‘urban’ destinations (in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra).

The Worker Facilitation Centre (WFC) in Jodhpur, Rajasthan has now been operational since 2023. It mainly works in four industrial clusters (Basni, Boranada, Tanavada and Mandore) of the city with an expanding work to new areas around the city as well. The WFC acts as a space for workers to walk-in for information, counselling and access to government schemes and benefits. The WFC provides services to workers in the realms of financial inclusion, social security, health and legal aid.

We are seeking an experienced colleague to join the Jodhpur WFC and strengthen its work.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with informal, migrant workers in Jodhpur to strengthen their rights through organising, awareness‑building and strong workers’ advocacy platforms.
  • Improve safety standards in work sectors that pose high risk of accidents and injuries for workers in Jodhpur. This includes sensitizing and liaison with employers, government departments, and other stakeholders to promote safe and dignified workplaces.
  • Empower, engage and train workers’ organisations, leaders, para-legal workers and volunteers.
  • Build and strengthen networks and partnerships with various stakeholders in Jodhpur.
  • Support ongoing organizational projects and programmes through timely reporting, documentation, the development of effective training and awareness modules.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Labour Studies, Law, Development Studies or allied disciplines. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in field‑based interventions, worker mobilization, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Experience in programme documentation, report writing and basic research activities.
  • Willingness to travel and engage extensively in fieldwork.

The position demands a willingness and interest to work in the community and engage with workers. The Jodhpur centre is expanding its work to other locations in western Rajasthan hence the candidate will need to be ready for travel and field work across locations.

The salary offer for this position will range from Rs 35,000 – Rs. 40,000 per month depending on qualification and relevant experience.

About Aajeevika Bureau

Aajeevika Bureau is a non-profit organisation working with migrant workers and labouring communities to build secure and dignified lives. Established in 2005, the organisation works across Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra through facilitation centres that support migrant workers and their families.

A key part of our work focuses on empowering women in migration-affected communities who often face invisible, unpaid, and insecure labour conditions.
