Kumbhalgarh is a tribal rich block of Rajsamand district whose headquarter Kelwara
is located about 80km northwest from Udaipur. A very hilly area with scant agriculture and thinning forest cover, the region’s population includes tribal communities (Bhils) and other social groups, particularly Rajputs. Major migrant groups from Kumbhalgarh include hotel and restaurant workers, loaders, and textile workers. Kumbhalgarh sends out its migrants to a vast range of urban centers including Ahmedabad, Surat, and Mumbai.
Aajeevika Bureau’s center in Kumbhalgarh has a strong community presence and engages in a number of activities along with the registration and photo ID to migrant workers. It holds regular workshops with various migrants groups on employment, labour rights and counseling. Skill upgradation and placement of migrant workers is also a core activity of the center. Financial services for migrant workers are offered in Kelwara through a branch office of the Rajasthan Shram Sarathi Association (RSSA) – a company promoted by the Bureau to offer financial solutions to rural migrants.
